In the excerpts from the ‘METHODS FOR EXAMINING THE REGISTERABILITY OF TRADEMARKS’ presented here, as early as in 1994, the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland explained the meaning of the descriptive graphic elements of a trademark – in a similar way as did the Board of Appeal of the EUIPO (formerly OHIM) in 2009, deciding this case in the judgment shown at right
